Your Opportunity

Mission Australia is seeking a confident and motivated Youth AOD Case Worker to support young people aged 12-24 years who are using substances or are at risk of alcohol and other drug-related harm. This is a rewarding opportunity to work directly with young people, families, schools and communities across the Far West region.

As a Youth AOD Case Worker, you will provide a range of individual and group-based interventions focused on education, harm minimisation, psychosocial support, and building positive life outcomes for young people.

The role includes outreach across the Far West region, including Broken Hill, Wilcannia, Menindee, Dareton and surrounding communities, with opportunities to engage young people in community, school and home-based settings.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Provide individual case management and support to young people aged 12-24 years.
• Conduct assessments, care planning, goal setting and ongoing case reviews.
• Deliver alcohol and other drug education and harm reduction interventions.
• Design, facilitate and evaluate therapeutic and educational group programs.
• Deliver engaging presentations and education sessions in schools and community settings.
• Build strong relationships with schools, health services, community organisations and other stakeholders.
• Support young people to access appropriate services through referrals and advocacy.
• Undertake outreach visits, including home visits where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate client records, reports and program documentation.
• Work collaboratively with AOD Counsellors and other multidisciplinary team members.

Requirements for Success

• Qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Youth Work, Psychology, Counselling, Welfare, AOD, Mental Health or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in case management, care planning and service coordination.
• Experience working with young people in a community, health, education or human services setting
• Culturally aware, respectful, and committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal young people and their communities.
• Knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues and their impact on young people.
• Understanding of the challenges facing young people in regional and remote communities.
• Strong communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Current NSW driver’s license
• Current First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain
