Your Opportunity

HOPE Whyalla is a place-based partnership that brings together residents, community organisations, government, business and local leaders to create lasting, community-led change across Whyalla. Together, partners listen to the community, work collaboratively and support local people to lead change.

As the Community Development Facilitator with Mission Australia's Communities of Focus initiative, you'll be part of the backbone support for HOPE Whyalla. You'll spend your days listening to what matters to local people, building trusted relationships, coordinating activities and helping turn ideas into action. Success in this role comes from being curious, connecting people around shared goals and keeping community priorities moving forward.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with people and is equally comfortable behind the scenes. You'll be organised, able to juggle competing priorities, confident coordinating meetings and events, and have strong administration skills to keep projects on track. Working alongside the Community Development Lead, you'll also enjoy reflecting on what's working, gathering feedback and using data and evaluation to help shape future priorities and actions.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with residents, community organisations, businesses, government and sector stakeholders.
  • Coordinate engagement activities that increase awareness of and participation in HOPE Whyalla and Mission Australia's Communities of Focus initiative.
  • Coordinate meetings and working groups, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, tracking actions and supporting follow-up.
  • Facilitate community events, workshops and community conversations.
  • Support the co-design and delivery of community-led projects and initiatives.
  • Build community capacity through engagement, local asset mapping and collaboration.
  • Develop newsletters, social media content and other community communications.
  • Support residents to participate in local decision-making and community initiatives.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on activities and outcomes, using data and community feedback to inform continuous improvement.

Requirements for Success

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in community development, community services or a related field
  • At least one year of relevant experience in community engagement, development or social impact work
  • A passion for community-led change and improving outcomes for local communities
  • Experience building partnerships across community, government or not-for-profit sectors
  • Strong understanding of community engagement and development principles
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse and vulnerable communities
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing, newsletters and social media content development
  • Well-developed organisational and event coordination skills
  • Sound Microsoft Office and digital literacy skills
  • A current driver's licence

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

Your benefits

  • Rewarding work – every day you know you’re making a real difference
  • Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via AccessPay)
  • Free external, confidential counselling and access to chaplaincy support
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave
  • Extra leave including Mission Australia Thank You Day & Work Anniversary Day off
